Varsity basketball coach in California charged for theft amidst investigation
Last month, a high school basketball coach in California accused of having stolen money was also charged with theft.
Austin Pope, who was a basketball coach at John Burroughs High School ( California, Burbank), was charged this week, said a press release that was issued by the Burbank Police Department stating him for “theft in connection with his official capacity. ”
Pope has been accused of embezzlement of funds by the Burbank police who said he had taken money which he was expected to manage in his capacity as a choreographer to athletes while in his capacity as a coach. The matter was taken to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office where it sent to the Burbank City Attorney’s Office.
He has been indicted under ‘Grand Theft by Deception over $950. ’ With the case details given above, there is a date set for Pope in late June where he will be said to plead before the case.
According to KTLA, a CW station on Los Angeles, the School District dismissed Pope as the varsity basketball coach while pointing out that he had HIV.
In the previous season, Burroughs was able to post a cumulative stand of 15-14 at the end of the regular season.
