USA scores 31 unanswered to top Canada 65-44 in 26th Can-Am 6-Man All-Star game
Holding a 44-34 lead at the half of the 26 th annual Can-Am 6-Man All-Star football game, the USA was running up the final whistle with scores of 31 unanswered points to end the game and win 65-44 in Meeteetse, Wyo on Saturday.
Conversely, the US dominated Canada with its’ effective rushing game that appeared to wear down a resilient opponent, who fell behind the US by double figures on several occasions. Mintken from the Hay Springs, Nebraska scored three rushing touchdowns, while Dubois, Wyoming’s Wyatt Trembly scored two rushing and two passing touchdowns from the halfback position.
Canada got off the mark on the second play from the line of assault when Hunter Barnstable a high school teammate with Koen Chewisnki threw a 50-yards touchdown less than a minute into the game. He gobbled up the USA secondary involving himself in yardage until he got consumed by two men in the second half occasionally.
Trembly equalized for Canada’s score on his first touchdown run 70 seconds later but Canada again responded in a mere a 42 seconds with Barnstable’s second touchdown pass, this time, to Liam McGrath.
The two teams interchanged leads till the late first half when Canada was leading 36-34 and was about to add on. The USA had the ball at the goal line and forced a fumble where Miami, Texas, USA defensive MVP Haiden Thompson picked up the ball. That was the first time either team had to stop for a foul in the game.
Canada, however, scored on its first drive of the third quarter to extend the lead to 10 that was negated by four consecutive rushes by Mintken and Rowden-Stum, a product of Genoa-Hugo High School, Colo.
The coach of the USA team, Sylvan, decided to award Mintken as the offence Most Valuable Player and Barnstable was awarded as the Canadian offence Most Valuable Player [] The award for the best defense in the club received by the Canadian team was awarded to Jacob Fehr.
The victory takes the series record to 21-5 to Team USA who have now won three in a row, and 12 out of the last 13.
