Juniors Face Seniors In All-Star Game

The island’s top junior female basketball performers got the feeling of how it feels to face some of the best senior women basketball players during a match at Somersfield Academy last week.

The coed was the Bermuda All-Star game pitting Team Women’s Basketball Bermuda [WBB] against the High School Girls All-Stars that comprised of players from Saltus Grammer school, Somersfield academy, Warwick academy, Mount Saint Agnes Academy and Cedar Bridge academy.

Despite WBB players’ extra experience and know-how as seen on the night, high school team, with Shari Scott as the head coach, is keen to have another shot at the team with the games scheduled for another a later this month.

This game is the innovation of Aria Mosquera, 15 a Saltus’ student, after playing the recent match in Bermuda School Sports Federation Senior School Varsity Girls in which Saltus emerged the winner by 19-9 against Somersfield Academy.

Aria Mosquera, Leah Mosquera, talked about the purpose of the All-Star match, saying ‘This is the reason why the All-Star match was played so as to spark the competitiveness in the high school girls. ’

“It was a fine exercise for the benefit of the community and as a result a fine way to brighten up for girl basketball on the island,” Ms Mosquera said this to the Bernews.

Thus, while the WBB recorded a wide victory and came out of the game victoriously, the high school team left the court with the notion of equal competition on the floor.

“They formed connections as a team camaraderie and now all are anxious for a battle!

“The girls were having team jitters in their first match against the Combination and some senior women’s players but the encounter was out of this planet. ”
