Funeral Held for former Thomasville High School Football Player
The funeral for the murder 19-year old Demorrio “DJ” Thurman was conducted on Saturday, July 6 at Thomasville High School.
DJ was known to have died in a car accident in Leon County on 26th June.
Thurman graduated high school in 2023 where he actively partially for his high school’s football team. He was well appreciated by members of the society.
“When I got the call last Wednesday my heart sank well into my stomach And the thing that immediately came to my mind was a young man with a big heart and a million-dollar smile that made everything alright in this world,” said Thurman’s former teacher, Jamie Freeman.
Many of the people, including friends and THS upperclassmen, attended his funeral held at Thomasville gymnasium. Anybody who was privileged to have associated with Thurman would have vouched for the fact that Thurman was indeed a great student, friend, and father. However, footballer talent and athletes were also one of the things that the abbreviation DJ symbolized.
“He wants to live each day as he used to play football, for himself and he hoped that you guys should also. He readily sacrificed himself, not for himself but for his friends, his comrade in arms, his fellow teammates and citizens of Thomasville” said Thomasville High School Head Football Coach Jonathan Delay.
From the interview with DJ’s family and friends, as reported by WALB, the people in his life assure everyone that, although DJ won’t be around anymore, they will see to it that his memory will live on.
“He has to be very missed, and I will miss him a lot actually, and just keep watching down on us, DJ,” said Thurman’s Godmother Melissa.
“DJ, #7, rest high. We screaming #7 forever,” said Thurman’s Cousin Antwan Spivey.
“DJ was cool to chill with, man,” Maj Floyd and Adam Hopkins mentioned Thurman’s friend, “He played, man, always had jokes He was funny, man, jokester He gonna be missed. ”
“He provided tender loving care and use of his time such as any father would do to son,” it said in the obituary message.
Last week, while reporting a balloon release which was conducted in his honor, WALB had the opportunity of an interview with Thurman’s family.
“The assurance of his love was that he never wanted his friends to see him in low light as the God he believed in,” Learneshia Lewis, DJ’s aunt.
