Five bold predictions for the Laredo high school football season

Five bold predictions for the Laredo high school football season

The new season is about to start in the coming September for the high school football team, folks. What this means is that one has to gear up and get set.

The football scene of Laredo will be different from that of the year before as a bunch of talent left this past May, but it is not devoid of talent. Let me emphasize, however, that the Gateway City will still have high quality talent comes the next year.

Given this situation, it can be quite challenging to forecast what will occur the subsequent season. However, I tried my best as these are my top 5 bold predictions for the 2024 campaign:However, I tried my best as these are my top 5 bold predictions for the 2024 campaign:

Roli Gonzalez of United South will be Laredo’s best quarterback this coming season

The designation for the best signal caller in the Gateway City is wide open since United’s Atzel Chavez went on graduation this May that makes Gonzalez appear to be the best bet the Laredo’s top quarterback in the following season.

Last season, Gonzalez earned a promotion to the varsity level towards the end of the season as he started for South in a game against LBJ and in the Mustangs’ loss to San Antonio Brennan in the playoffs. Oh yeah, Gonzalez, poor bastard was impressive in his two starts; he managed 16 of 29, 144 yards and a touchdown thrown. And a bit earlier this summer in the local 7-on-7 league, Gonzalez was outstanding as well as, as he tore apart opposing teams’ pass defenses.

This coming junior displayed a glimpse of having the potential of being a very good signal maker last season. But with persons like Roel Hernandez and Jonathan Tello back to assist him, Gonzalez has the possibilities to become the best record passer of Laredo in this coming season.

Nixon will become playoff bound

The Mustangs narrowly missed the playoffs consideration last year, being just a game shy. Nevertheless, this year it supposes to break Green & Gold playoff drought and return to the televised promised land.

Nixon has a very effective offence as any official that has faced him can corroborate. It perhaps boasts of the best skilled position in the Gateway City especially in the running back position in Emiliano Hernandez and in the receivers’ position in Thomas Limon and Shawn Haynes. Whichever of the two is going to be the quarterback next year, whether it is Hunter Salinas or Jerry Rodriguez, should really be helped plenty given the quality of players that they expect to have around them.

For this reason, I believe that the chances of the Mustangs featuring in the playoffs will depend on how well the team plans to defend itself come the following year. Should it be solid, which I believe the unit is going to be, then the Green & Gold should be heading to the playoffs this year.

Alexander wins District 30-6A

District 30-6A came so close but with a second place finish crossed the line to United and left the Bulldogs. But come the next football season, Alexander has a great stand chance of walking away with the 30-6A.

The Navy & Gold returns a couple of talents on both offense and defense. Without any doubt, they possess the best offence line in the entire district and this tremendously counts when it comes to championship. The rest of the 30-6A team was relatively young last year, and even some of those who registered high statistics last year lost in the offseason.

Alexander will not find it very easy today to win the district. The league is always not an easy cup to grab. Nonetheless, it positioned itself to lose this coming season.

Among the players of Laredo, Martin’s Elian Ojeda plays in the top three.

As result, Laredo is packed with the potential of bitter foes’ offence. Based on the skills that Ojeda is equipped with, it would not come as a surprise that the said player will be among the top three players that will be featured in the Gateway City the next year.

Last year for Martin, Ojeda was a second-team All District honorable mention as the team’s leading receiver. Nevertheless, having of what the Tigers let go this offseason, he may be on pace for an increased utilization in 2024.

Martin saw his top playmaker Chris Dillard graduate. Perhaps, it may not be strange to see the Tigers attempt to use Ojeda as part of the dimension in the running game in the coming season. In red and white’s offense he could be a real dangerous dual threat player due to his athletic capability. So if he reproduces the same in the run and pass specific and at large in the next year he should be considered a top three player in Laredo.

HiM meets AFL’s playoff bracket

The Wolves reload with talent from a team that was nearly competitive in 30-6A play though they did not win a district game. However, the head coach Leo Mireles is very much focused in the right direction when leading the team, the Wolves.

For the Wolves to be able to make it into the playoffs it is going to be hard work. Conference 30-6A is not a push over league. It is among the most challenging ones offered in any of the South Texas schools. Thus, it is going to very hard weekly for LBJ to hustle to be part of the postseason. However, with talent and experience which the Purple & Gold return this coming season, one would not be surprised to see them fight for a playoff berth towards the later part of the season.
