FCPS investigating Hayfield Secondary School football team over recruiting allegations
New football head coach of Hayfield Secondary School has been accused of Dumpyer 16 that dozens of student-athletes have been found to have transferred using fake addresses.
Darryl Overton is the head coach who is coming from the Freedom Eagles team, where he made two state championship titles, and its feel is still especially strong in that area.
said another parent to FOX 5: “So, right now, I have known Coach Overton over ten years now. ” ”He is actively engaged in youth programs with other youth programs and high school programs, were a man of high integrity. ”
But there are some who do not have the same feelings.
Parent Regina Dorsey said that her son used to attend Hayfield but transferred to South County; she mentioned to FOX 5 that in conversations with her son and his former teammates, they said that as many as 33 students, including Freedom student-athletes, are transferring to Hayfield. Of which, she says that some Newton schools – and some local parents – were being paid to use their own phony addresses.
“We need to make our own money, and be autonomous,” elaborated Dorsey, recounting how he once asked a woman whether ‘they’ were paying her; she simply fell silent but replied in the affirmative before saying how she had wanted to assist ‘them’; Dorsey responded by wishing that she was being paid sufficiently.
Local sources, such as Deanna Douherty confirmed this information to FOX 5.
As Douherty stated there have been some transfers which she probably does not think that it has been that big amount of money for. “You asked my for the names of at least five black faces I recognize, which I have said I have discussed with my son and he told me that ‘I think there’s, like, seven. ’”
Fairfax County Public Schools released this statement:
FCPS is aware of the concerns that has abounded lately about the football program of the Hayfield Secondary School. The relevant concerns were investigated in confidence since the beginning of May, and the process still remains ongoing. Another part of the process is the residency checks in which there will be time to complete the report to achieve the highest level of accuracy.
It is also important to note that the staff of Region 6 office and Hayfield Secondary School continue to consult with the team families that have been brought forward concerns. Furthermore, concerns over team fund were a quick solution by the skills school’s director of students’ activities.
Players and families also, had issues to raise regarding the school’s team culture which the school staff is investigating. Families will continue to receive periodic updates as required and depending on the situation. "
In order to gain Overton’s account, FOX 5 contacted him. I could not talk to him about this because he wasn’t available at the time.
